Description

Veronica beccabunga, or Brooklime, is a low-growing, creeping aquatic plant with blue flowers, glossy green leaves

Veronica beccabunga spreads by creeping stems that root at the nodes. The plant forms dense mats of growth, with oval, fleshy, glossy green leaves that are slightly serrated at the edges. The stems are often reddish in colour, adding subtle contrast to the bright green foliage.

In late spring to early autumn, Veronica produces small, bright blue flowers with white centers, arranged in loose racemes that rise above the foliage. The flowers are approximately 5–8 mm (0.2–0.3 inches) in diameter and are highly attractive to pollinators, such as bees and butterflies

Veronica beccabunga flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, supporting biodiversity in ponds and the edge of ponds.  The dense growth provides shelter for small aquatic creatures and helps improve water quality by filtering sediments and absorbing excess nutrients.

Additionally, its creeping habit stabilizes soil along water margins, reducing erosion and helping to maintain the integrity of pond banks and stream edges.
